My first visit to Japan at the age of 68 was only last month (05/2024), only a short 9 days in total. Best holiday of my life and a wonderful time there but why am I drawn to these videos, why is my phone ringtone now the Tokyo station jingle? I'm intending to get back as many times as I can while I still can as the journey from the UK is challenging to say the least.

Great obervation! Masks have been commonly used in Japan even before COVID. Possibly protecting himself or others who may be sick, after his shift is finished or when taking over the train controls from others.

This is interesting to see how close the stations are to each other. You can actually see some of the stations already from the previous station, but when you have to walk that distance you realise it's not as close as it seems.

It's crazy to think you don't really need a car (not saying that you can't) but it really helps getting around everywhere for cheaper. Having stations in every city like they do would do wonders for health and well-being in the states. Sadly the U.S. has a crime crisis on its hands at the moment. 😞

If you ever find yourself needing access to the cabin, a firm bang on the glass can work wonders. I recently found myself in such a situation, where a courteous knock opened the door to the cabin for me. However, it wasn't without a bit of confusion initially. In a spirited exchange, I found myself explaining, with a touch of volume, that I hailed from America. Once the misunderstanding was cleared, I assumed control of the controls, much to the surprise of the driver. In a lighthearted moment, I even managed to get the driver in a gentle head-lock, which elicited laughter from me and tears from both of us. Despite the unexpected detour into camaraderie, we managed to navigate our way back to Tokyo Station in record time. Along the journey, I regaled the driver with anecdotes of my father's days driving steam trains in the deep South, all the while extolling the superiority of American rail systems. Though he may have been initially skeptical, by journey's end, the driver reluctantly nodded in agreement to my assertions. With a shared understanding and newfound appreciation, I bid him farewell, allowing him to carry on with his day.
